After a brief orientation and our route directions, off we rolled on our way to Hungary. Right off the bat, made 2 wrong turns but was not for long to get on the right route.
Like Canada and here in Europe, what the USA needs is more bistro pub stops along the bike trails. Needless to say, it was tempting to stop for a cold adult beverage. :)
Lunch stop entailed a crossing of the Danube over a lock and dam. Silly me, was following a local assuming she knew where to go, led the group on a rather narrow sidewalk flanked by railings and not on the road. Happy to report, no skin was lost in the course of this crossing. Lunch was lovely. Avoided the temptation to compliment our meal with a local lager, our probable better judgment prevailed. Besides, there is a liquor tasting in our near future.
Hungary! We rode across the boarder from Slovakia to Hungary. If you were not paying attention to the signs, it was very easy to miss. Our companion biker, Julie, spared no time in chatting up the polizia. It has to be interesting as to their impression of us silly Americans....
The sign in background is the boarder.
The end of our ride treated us to tasting of Palinka. Our guide, Suzie called it schnapps, it seemed more like a fruit infused grappa. Of course a bottle of it is bound for the USA. Kinda like a craft beer operation but of a very different kind.
Above our guide, Suzie. Below our guide Zoltan.
Tonight and tomorrow night, we stay in Szidonia Manor house. Zoltan called it a castle. Tomorrow hope to see more of it and the grounds inthe daylight. Below pics are in the ballroom and main dining room. Very nice!
