Wieliczka Salt Mines! Not just an expression, they really do exist. This mine is no longer in operation. It is now a UNESCO world heritage cite. As you can see, flat Brenda is with us on this journey. Entering the mine, down we went a total of 450 feet, walked through drifts and into about 20 chambers. After 3 hours of exploration, managed to see about 1% of this labyrinth. A number of chapels, statues carved in salt, chandeliers made of salt crystals, and underground lakes. It was quite interesting but glad to not have been our profession.
It was a late night. It is a 4 hour tour beginning at 5:00. Right out side our hotel door is a permanent food kiosk. More adventure into local cuisine. Several of us got a little something, ya, little 😆. It took too hands and about 25 minutes along with at least a dozen napkins to eat. The portions are huge! Of course, Mark and I found a source for an adult beverage to accompany our feast. 😉. Our fellow travelers quickly upon their arrival to Krakow found a neighboring grocery store with cold individual jumbo size beers ready for the taking. Yum!
Tomorrow, the Jewish Quarter and so much more!
