This morning we set out to explore Podgorze , the enclosed ghetto during World War II. Thousands of Jews, former residents of Kazimierz, were imprisoned in the Podgorze ghetto which was a staging area before deportation to the nearby Belzec, Plaszow and Auschwitz concentration camps. The photo above of chairs are symbols of the many possessions left behind. It is so hard to conceive of this and that it truly did happen.
We moved on to visit the former Schindler Factory. Oskar Schindler ran an enamelware factory in Krakow employing local Jews where he successfully saved them from near certain death. Steven Spielberg filmed the movie Schindlers List entirely on location in Krakow and surrounding area.
