Day 12. Antarctica more amazement

Saturday in the maze of the islands of the Antarctica Shetland peninsula, we start out the day on a zodiac ride around an island sanctuary for Adelie penguins. Of course there was a stray gentoo and chinstrap penguins in the mix. They are so cute and totally entertaining. We boated by the USA Palmer research station. That was fun to see. The island was teeming with lots of other wildlife - elephant and tiger seals, skuas, Wilson's storm petrals and many more birds that I have no idea the exact name. Suppose seagull might cover a few of them. For those who are curious, we circumnavigated Torgersen Island which lies in Arthur Harbor southwest of Anvers Island. Now you know exactly where we were... right? :). In the afternoon we wandered over towards Damoy Point which is in the west side of Wiencke Island. Two huts remain here. One is a former air terminal from a once British air landing field. The other an Argentinian refuge hut. We huffed and puffed our way up the side of the glacier to the top. Absolutely breathtaking view. Also an arial view of our destination tomorrow morning, Port Lockroy. Shopping and a post office. Sunburned my face a bit on these adventures, so may have to buy a new hat. Stay tuned for tomorrow. Will it be a hat day?
