Over the top and beyond! This palace truly is gigantic. It was everything and more that our guide alluded to yesterday. This residence construction began in 1717. Catherine I wanted it for her pleasure. It was continually added onto by subsequent empress Elizabeth to the 325 meter long palace we see today. WWII was not kind to Catherine's summer getaway. It was nearly demolished and looted by the Germans. Reconstruction is continuing today.
