China! Day 2 part a
Successfully did not sleep through another night. Who knew a 14 hour time change would take so long to adjust. Returned from dinner last night and crashed into a sound sleep at about 8:00. Woke up some time later convinced it had to be at least 4-5:00, nope, only 9:37... Tonight we are confident that will make it more than a few hours. Wish us luck. Today we met up with our guides and set off to explore more of this fascinating city. So many facets are striking. Like the number of bicycles and electric motor scooters that nearly outnumber the cars, not many large trucks, extremely high density housing, and how quiet the traffic is. Seriously, very little noise from engines if at all. The bikes and scooters are nearly totally noiseless. It is rather pleasant, especially considering there is an elevated highway and 8 lane boulevard right in front of our hotel. Noticeably, the people here are so very polite. Everyone is very nice, no idea what they are saying, but they have a very nice demeanor. I digress, back to today's exploration. First stop was to Fuxing Park. Who knew retirees/seniors have a place all their own to hang out. Line dancing, bamboo top tossing, badminton, choral singing, tai chi, calligraphy with a water brush, ball room dancing, saxophone ensembles, many other instruments being played and lots of socializing. This is a very busy place. Everyone is so happy. The world sure needs more happiness. You certainly can find it here. Enjoy some photos.
